PRIMROSE CHARMZ:

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ARTIST AND PATTERN DESIGNER

BIOGRAPHY:

Primrose Charmz is a self-taught Surface designer and multi-disciplinary artist based in Cape Town, South Africa.

She obtained an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Primrose’s career as a surface designer was launched after being selected as a Top 10 finalist for the 2018 Nandos Hot Young Designer pattern design competition.

In 2020, through her association with the brand and being exposed to their passion for celebrating Southern African talent and design, Primrose was inspired to start designing cultural artworks (for limited edition Giclee prints) and patterns to visually narrate-and celebrate-aspects of the rich heritage and history of communities and cultural groups based in Africa.

Whilst some of Primrose’s patterns have been showcased on products and surfaces in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, her debut as a professional artist was made with the 2021 ‘Women from Africa in the arts’ virtual exhibition hosted by Color Me Africa Fine Arts : an arts organisation based in Chicago, USA.

In 2022, Primrose decided to expand as an artist and ventured into the creation of textile artworks. The majority of these artworks are punch-needle embroidery pieces. However, she also collaborates with textile mills to create tapestries for large-scale commissions.
